Ang Bagong Lipunan (New Society) Series
The Ang Bagong Lipunan (literally meaning “The New Society”) series was released in 1973 under presidential decree. President Marcos’ “New Society” marked an era of new social, political and economic reforms. This series was made up of the 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 piso denominations. 2 x commemorative notes were also released in this series (167a to commemorate the inauguration of President Marcos and 166a to commemorate the visit of Pope John Paul II). With the exception of the newly added 2 piso note, all other banknotes are uncannily similar to those of the preceding Pilipino series. All banknotes in this series we demonetized in February 1993.
