Guerilla/Emergency Notes of WWII
During WWII Emergency notes (often referred to as Guerilla notes) were produced by local governments and banks. These were produced with the permission of the exiled Government of the Philippine Commonwealth. A vast number of different guerilla notes were produced by different regions. Many have very crude designs, simple colours and most have very little security features (if any) due to the “backyard” printing processes that were employed. Guerilla notes were outlawed by the ruling Japanese Government at the time and anyone caught with these notes would be severely beaten or worse. Despite this, Guerilla notes were an important part of Filipino life during WWII and allowed business to be conducted among local Filipinos.
Despite the often crude designs, lack of colour, inconsistent sizes and poor print quality they are a great collectible and are equally amazing little pieces of history.
