Witness the evolution of Philippine coins through these type sets of Philippine coins by denomination. I have decided to present these sets based on currency type and denomination. I have deliberately started with coins from the U.S. administration as I am still collecting the Spanish era and would rather show images of actual coins instead of placeholder “I don’t have this one yet” text/images. I am also not documenting commemorative coins or banknotes in these type sets.
If you are looking for more detailed information on Philippine coins by series or commemorative coins then this page will have what you are looking you.
From the early 1900’s while under U.S. administration the currency utilized was was the peso and centavo. This was a carry over from the middle of the 1800’s when the Philippines was under Spanish rule. In 1967 under strong nationalism movements the currency was changed to the piso and sentimos. I will therefore present type sets based on peso’s or piso’s herein.
