1998 Philippine Centennial Stamps
The Philippine Centennial Invitational Philatelic Exhibition souvenir sheets of 1998 are an interesting set of souvenir sheets for the collector. All souvenir sheets have the same 15 pesos face value and feature flags from the first revolution along with images of postage and revenue stamps from the same era. The complete set consists of 7 souvenir sheets, 5 perforated and 2 imperforate. The 7th sheet in the series is a reprint of the first but in a darker shade of green (type 2) and was released approximately 1 month after the others.
Released in 1998 to commemorate 100 years of independence and 100 years of Philippine postal service. These dates are of course based on the start of Aguinaldo’s Revolutionary Government – the Spanish were producing postage stamps for the Philippines before 1898. All stamps feature postage or revenue stamps from the revolutionary government of Emilio Aguinaldo and important events from the revolution.
Release of the souvenir sheets was staggered between the 5th and 9th November 1998.
While these souvenir sheets are fairly common you can expect to pay more for the two imperforate sheets. Type 2 in the darker shade of green can present more of a challenge to collect and will be priced accordingly.
